NEW INSTRUCTION GIVEN

Yesterday morning the members of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps started their third week of intensive training, with several new subjects in their day's work. At 8 o'clock the entire Corps, meeting in 26 sections in various University buildings, had its first lesson in military topography, and immediately afterwards the men were put through the physical drill which will from this time on be a regular feature of the daily program. There followed an hour of semaphore signalling, and the rest of the morning was spent in practice on the sub-calibre ranges and in bayonet drill. In the afternoon at half-past one o'clock section meetings were held again, as provided for in the schedule for the week, on the subject of infantry tactics. Close and extended order drills, with a period devoted to wig-wag signalling, took up the balance of the afternoon.

In the evening Major Azan, of the French Mission, assisted by Professor Merriman, delivered a lecture on the parts played by the various arms of the service and the importance of co-operation between the different branches. Infantry, artillery, engineering, cavalry, and the aviation corps were treated successively, emphasis being laid on the first two as being the most fundamental departments of the service. The part which each division fills in the entire system, and the manner in which they work together, were carefully explained. Until further notice lectures by the French officers will be given on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of each week.

Motor Cycle Corps Plans Trip

The motorcycle detachment will make a short practice trip this week-end, leaving Cambridge Saturday at noon and returning the following afternoon. Tentage and blankets will accompany the men in automobiles. The purpose of the expedition will be to familiarize the men with map reading.
