TEAM RENEWS FORMAL CONTESTS WITH YALE

CRIMSON STRONG AT BAT

By a comparison of scores of the four games played by both nines this season, Yale will be the favorite to win when they meet the University on Soldiers Field tomorrow afternoon in the first baseball contest between the two universities since June, 1916. But on the other hand, the University has encountered far stronger opposition than the Elis in the three service nines of the Portland Naval Reserve, the Boston Navy Yard, and Camp Devens. Princeton, the only nine both teams have met, was defeated in each case by a close score.

Yale has won every game played, defeating Wesleyan, 6 to 5, Dartmouth, 1 to 0, Cornell, 4 to 1, and Princeton, 4 to 3, while the University has lost three of its four games. Tomorrow's engagement is likely to decide the winner of the triangular series, as the Tigers have very little chance of coming out on top after losing the two opening championship contests.

Talcott has been Yale's mainstay in the box during the games with Cornell, Dartmouth, and Princeton, and will undoubtedly start against the University tomorrow. He has been steady to the point of issuing only one base on balls in all three games, and has held his opponents to four runs.

Superiority at the bat appears to be the University nine's chief advantage over Yale. That the home team was able to obtain 11 hits off Moore of Princeton, while Yale only made four shows the batting strength of the University players, but whether they will be able to solve Talcott's delivery is a matter of some doubt.

All spring the Crimson has suffered greatly from weak fielding, and in every game unearned runs have been the result. If the University is able to overcome this deficiency tomorrow, they should be able to score a victory over the Elis.
