DOUBLE HEADER PLANNED FOR FOOTBALL TEAM ON SEPT. 25

Plan Would Satisfy Early Opponents and Give Chance for More Crimson Players.

A double-header in football is planned by the football management to take place on September 25, a date which was left open in the schedule for next fall as published yesterday morning. As yet definite replies have not been received from the colleges with whom the management is in touch, but it is confidently expected that the plan will be put through.

The novel proposition of the double-header in football was evolved at the University for two purposes: to satisfy the smaller colleges whom the University plays at the beginning of the season, and to enable her to play a greater number of men than under the old system. By this means the criticism which is aroused whenever the coaches play a large number of fresh men against a wornout opponent will be eliminated.

As the plan is now conceived, there would be four periods of eight minutes. Two games would be played the same afternoon, one immediately following the other. The University, however, would not attempt to play two distinct teams against the other colleges, but would make substitutions throughout both short games as though they were one long game, so that both of the visiting teams would be playing against our first string players and their substitutes. Another advantage would result from this plan in that with two contests in succession, although they might only last about half an hour longer than one game under the former system, more people would consider it worth while to come out to the Stadium, thus increasing the gate receipts and the bonus that would be granted to the visiting teams.
