In a hard fought contest the University tennis team defeated the Springfield Tennis Club at Springfield Saturday by a score of four matches to two. The sets between F. C. Hanighen and H. L. Davenport lasted three hours.
The summary: F. C. Hanighen '21 defeated H. L. Davenport 2-6, 8-6, 6-4; G. W. Pike defeated G. W. Helm '20 6-3, 7-5; C. H. Hyams '21 defeated E. S. Chase 6-2, 6-3. A. H. Chapin defeated L. A. de Turenne 6-1, 2-6, 6-1. Doubles--G. W. Helm '20 and F. C. Hanighen '21 defeated H. L. Davenport and G. W. Pike 6-4, 6-3; C. Hyams '21 and J. B. Fenno, Jr.; '21 defeated A. H. Chapin and E. S. Chase 6-2, 6-3.
The match between the Second University tennis team and the Freshman team resulted in a win for the former by five matches to two.
