Fifty Freshmen reported on the 1924 diamond at 3 yesterday afternoon for their first baseball practice. Coach R.B. Miller allowed the squad to toss the ball around for a while and then he divided the men up, separating the battery candidates from the fielders. As soon as he had sized up his pitchers, he started a practice game. By making frequent substitutions he succeeded in giving every candidate a change to play before the 15-inning session was over.
Arrange Series of Games
Coach Miller will continue to hold similar games for several days. Then he will divide the squad into nines and possibly start a series of games with teams around Boston.
The H.A.A. is furnishing balls, bats and some catchers' equipment, but no uniforms will be available for 1924 men until next spring, so each man is expected to furnish his own outfit. In case the weather is doubtful, men should consult the bulletin board at Leavitt & Pierce's for the latest notice.
