RACES FOR CONFERENCE AND COAST TITLES NARROW DOWN

In "Big Ten" Circles, Ohio Faces Crucial Game With Illinois--Georgia Tech on Crest

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Football races in various sections of the country are narrowing down to the select few who have been tried in the balance and found not wanting. As yet, only one team has cinched the title of its territory. The University of Oklahoma rose to the position of unchallenged superiority in the Missouri Valley Conference last Saturday by defeating Kansas 21 to 9. Oklahoma has only two games remaining on its schedule and it is not likely that it will lose either of them.

Illinois Has Tough Outlook

The last hopes of Chicago and Michigan of winning the "Big Ten" Conference championship vanished Saturday. Ohio defeated Michigan by 14 to 7, block-minutes of play, while Illinois won a stubborn battle from Chicago by 3 to 0. As Ohio has no game this week, it will face Illinois in the crucial game two weeks away with a clean slate. The Illinois, how-ever, must defeat the strong Wisconsin eleven next Saturday to enjoy a like prestige. The Illini are favorites over the Badgers, but Ohio is picked to win the final game and the championship for a second year. Ever since Chick Harley almost single-handed won Ohio a Conference Title two years ago, the Buckeyes have been figuring "big" in the Middle West. They lost, moreover, one of their best men in Pixley, now playing on the Princeton "Omelettes"--ineligible under the one-year rule.

Conditions in the South remain unchanged. Georgia Tech leads the field in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association, while Georgetown and V. M. I. are the logical contenders in the South Atlantic League. Georgia Tech, as a result of its early season showing has hopes of defeating Georgetown.

Centre Still Travelling

Centre College, having travelled to Boston and Atlanta successive weekends, continued on the warpath, invading Indianapolis last Saturday; they came back strong, defeating the strong DePauw eleven by 34 to 0. McMillin again displayed All-American work at quarterback.
