PROFESSOR BAKER CHOSEN TO WRITE PILGRIM PAGEANT

George Pierce Baker '87, Professor of Dramatic Literature at the University and author of many notable pageants, has been selected to write the Pilgrim Pageant, which will form the central feature of the celebration of the tercentenary of the landing of the Pilgrims at Plymouth. Work on the pageant, which is to visualize the Pilgrim story, has already begun. Professor Baker is planning to enlist the co-operation of the foremost literary and musical talent in America, and to embody in his work lyrics and musical gems by the most notable writers and composers.

Since February 15 Mr. Baker has been relieved of his active duties at Harvard, and during the coming months he expects to be in England and Holland securing material. It is the intention of Professor Baker to give full recognition to Cape Cod's part in the history of the voyage of the Pilgrims and to the experiences of the voyagers in their explorations about the bay before settling at Plymouth.

Professor Baker believes that pageantry should not be the mere re-writing of historical scenes, but, rather, that the spoken word is of as great importance as group movement in revealing the particular message of each scene.

The tentative dates for the pageant at Plymouth are from July 20 to August 10, 1921.
