FELTON TURNS TABLES ON CALIFORNIANS BY GIVING BUT 4 HITS

JANIN '22 GOES TO LEFT FIELD

California, whose slugging nine, which has blazed its way to victory in the East, was completely at the mercy of Felton yesterday afternoon when he pitched the University to a 9-2 win over the Western team. Allowing only four hits, one of these resulting from an error in judgment, Felton completely turned the tables on the nine which a week ago today hammered him for a 10-5 defeat.

The California nine, showing the effects of its long trip, seemed completely played out and offered only the feeblest opposition to the Crimson.

After the University broke through in the third inning when Conlon was scored on a timely hit by Jones and Felton on a sacrifice fly, the remaining seven runs came in with easy regularity.

Crimson Scores Heavy in Sixth

In the sixth inning the Crimson made its biggest splurge, and for a time it seemed as if California had completely lost hold of its self. After Lincoln had been thrown out at second, Blair, Felton and Conlon all singled. Blair scored on Conlon's single and Felton came in when Hallock rapped a drive to left field. Then Hallock, is an attempt to steal second, was caged between first and second; while he was being run down Conlon slipped home with the third and last tally of the inning.

California's two runs came in the fourth and last innings. In the fourth, Meyers, who had walked, stole second, took third on a wild heave by Felton, and scored on a sacrifice by Works. In the closing session the Crimson had some difficulty putting the finishing touches on its victory. After Rowher had flied out to Perkins, Toomey gained the initial sack on a single and was advanced to third on another hit by Anderson. Then Hallock missed a fly from McHenry and Toomey came home. But Hallock caught White's fly and the game was over.

H. C. Janin '22, who came up from the second team a few weeks ago, was tried out in the left field berth, where he acquitted himself well, being credited with three put-outs.
