Coach John T. Slattery has again been secured by the Athletic Association and will coach the 1921 baseball team. Coach Slattery proved last season to be one of the greatest baseball coaches the University ever had Although the team last year started off rather slowly, as both material and coach were new, under his leadership it steadily gained headway until at the end of the season the University defeated Yale, winning two out of three games in the series. The enthusiastic, confidence which University baseball men place in Coach Slattery is not only a tribute to his coaching; it will count for much in the-morale of the team this spring. From 1914 to the end of 1917 Coach Slattery was coach of the Tufts baseball nine, rescuing that team from a bad slump in playing and causing it to be known as one of the strongest teams in the country. From the spring of 1918 until the fall of 1919 when he signed a contract for one year with the University. Coach Slattery was general team coach and scout of the Boston Braves. Within the last 16 years he has headed nine leagues in batting average, and, although generally holding the position of catcher, he was often used at first base.
