More than 60 men, including graduate members of the Rowing Committee, University crew coaches, representatives of the Physical Training Department, and graduate and undergraduate oarsmen attended the crew luncheon held at the Varsity Club yesterday.
The meeting was addressed by Dr. R. H. Howe Jr. '01, and Captain L. B. McCagg Jr. '23, who discussed the reorganization of crew at the University and outlined general plans for the coming season.
Among the other speakers at the luncheon was President Eliot, who rowed as a graduate in 1858 and was the first to choose crimson as the University color; Arthur Burnham '70, and Lincoln Davis '94, who captained the University crew in that year, also made informal speeches.
Other prominent guests present were Coaches William Haines, K. J. Brown '96, H. H. Haines and Edward Wachter, and Major F. W. Moore '93, A. M. Stevens '08, W. H. Trumbull '15, R. W. Soucy '16, H. B. Cabot Jr. '17, and Wendell Davis '21.
The luncheon was the first of several which are to be held for the purpose of explaining the reorganization of University rowing to graduates and others; in addition Dr. Howe and the coaches are hoping for suggestions and constructive criticism.
