Mrs. Clare Sheridan, Noted Sculptress, Declares Lenin and Trotsky Are Not Fierce--No Free Speech in Russia

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Mrs. Clare Sheridan, the sculptress who modeled the busts of Trotsky and Lenin, spoke to the members of the Liberal Club at luncheon Saturday. Her speech was based on her visits to Russia.

Her impressions of Trotsky and Lenin, the Bolshevik leaders, were contrary to the general opinion. She described them as men who, whether they were right or wrong in their doctrines, were at least educated and sincere, devoted to their cause, and neither blood-thirsty nor fierce.

In closing Mrs. Sheridan said that the mental atmosphere in Russia was free and unconventional, but that there was no such thing as free speech. No speaker is permitted to attack the government.
