The University squash racquets team, although barely nosed out in two of the five matches, was defeated Saturday 4 matches to 1 by the Harvard Club at the latter's courts. This defeat forced the University team from third to fourth place in the Massachusetts Squash Racquets League. Although the Crimson players still have a mathematical chance to acquire the championship, they must win all their next ten matches to do so.
F. S. Kellogg '06 defeated W. P. Dixon '25, 12-15, 15-7, 15-12, 9-15, 18-16, in the feature match of the afternoon. Both players were at the top of their form, Kellogg wining on his ability to play drop shots better than his opponent. Captain E. M. Hinkle '23 and Carroll Harrington '24 played below their usual form, losing 15-11, 18-15, 15-9, and 15-10, 15-11, 15-9 to Captain G. D. Hayward '12 and P. C. Callanan '13 respectively. A. L. Smith '25 playing his shots low and hard, won from O. T. Russell '11, 15-9, 18-16, 10-15, 15-11. Hurd Hutchins '17, playing in fine form, defeated F. I. Carpenter '24 in a close match, 15-13, 11-15, 9-15, 17-16, 15-13.
Team B Defeats Newton
Team B., by its defeat of the Newton Centre team Saturday at Newton, 4 matches to 1, kept its hold on second place in the Class B league. Although the opposition was not hard, the team showed excellent form on unfamiliar courts. R. P. Rose '25, number one, lost to A. R. Holt, 15-13, 9-15, 15-18, 12-15, 15-11. J. J. Glessner '25, playing a very steady game, defeated George Buell, 15-11, 14-16, 15-10, 15-10. In the closest and most exiting match of the afternoon, R. C. Bostwick '23 won from C. E. Masters, 15-13, 15-16, 17-18, 15-11, 15-11. In the number four and five matches, E. M. Upjohn '25 won from G. H. Fernald '03, 18-14, 15-10, 15-11, and E. K. Davis '24, replacing C. P. G. Fuller '23, defeated Williard Hicks, 15-10, 15-9, 15-10.
