About 20 candidates for the battery positions reported at the cage for the first day of baseball practice yesterday. Coach Slattery sent the men through a light work-out with the idea of limbering up the men to prepare them for the more detailed training which will start later. E. F. Goode '22 and H. S. Russell 4E.S., both regular pitchers on the squad last year, and J. D. Murphy '22, last season's catcher, were present; and Grosvenor Bemis '24 and K. N. Hill '24 are among last year's Freshmen who show promise in the pitcher's box.
Beginning today the large battery squad will be divided into two divisions, so that Coach Slattery will be able to spend more time on individual instruction. The first of the periods will begin at 2.20 and will last for nearly an hour, while the final session will be from 3.15 to 4.00.
The fielders will report this afternoon at Hemenway Gymnasium to exercise under the direction of members of the University Physical Training Department.
