ELECT G. M. APPLETON '22 TO LEAD OARSMEN FOR COMING SEASON

WILL PROBABLY ROW IN BOW OF BOAT THIS SPRING

George Miller Appleton '22 of Buffalo, N. Y. was yesterday unanimously elected Captain of the University crew to succeed L. B. McCagg Jr. '22 who was forced to resign due to the pressure of his college work.

Appleton stroked the University crew in the Yale race last spring having been pressed into service as stroke only two weeks before the eights left for Red Top. He led the crew admirably in its race but is superior as an oarsman in the bow of the shell. Two years ago he rowed at 3 in the Junior crew and in his Freshman year at bow on the yearling eight; it is more likely that he will all one of these positions than stroke this season.

Appleton was the unanimous choice of all last year's "H" men who were the only ones eligible to vote for captain. M. E. Olmsted '21, who is at present at Oxford, and H. R. Atklnson '21, who is not in the vicinity, were the only ones who were unable to vote.
