Harvard Students To Vote on Divestment From Israel in Inaugural HUA Election Survey

RUMOR WILL OUT

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

When, during the war, there were so many demands upon the College for contributions to various reliefs that one drive often conflicted with another to the detriment of both, the Student Council made the very wise ruling that no drives should be held in the College without its authorization. The wisdom of this action has become more apparent as the necessity for such a ruling has become less and less urgent. For now drives competing with one another for popular support, but there is almost as little likelihood of any drive at all interfering with the peace of mind of the student; obviously he must not be annoyed.

But drives will occur even in the most admirably regulated colleges. We have heard a report for example that there is even now being carried on a campaign to secure a subscription of one dollar apiece from the members of the University, which will be used as Harvard's contribution to the Louvain Library. After a week of canvassing about ten percent, we believe, of the 100 percent enrollment has been procured. Of course it is true this Louvain Library is generally regarded as an estimable project and that most American colleges have already rather freely contributed to it. Yet, when a drive proves vexatious and troublesome (as is always the case), Harvard students adopt the only intelligent attitude-they ignore it.
