SEVER QUADRANGLE TO REPLACE SANDERS AS SCENE OF COMMENCEMENT EXERCISES

Entrances Will be From Quincy Street--Alumni of All Classes May Join in Procession This Year

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The University Commencement exercises will be held outdoors this year, in the Sever Quadrangle, instead of in Sanders Theatre as in former years, according to an announcement made at the University. This change has been made in order to provide additional seats for the families and friends of students in the graduating classes. The seating capacity of the quadrangle will be about twice that of the theatre.

This change of plan follows a petition signed by a large number of Seniors, asking that the Commencement exercises be held in some larger place than Sanders Theatre. The Stadium was suggested, but this suggestion was regarded as impracticable and Sever Quadrangle was decided on. This quadrangle is the open space in the College Yard between Sever, Robinson, and Emerson Halls. It is there that the alumni exercises are annually held on the afternoon of Commencement Day.

Announcement by University Marshal

The change of programme is announced by the University Marshal as follows:

"The Commencement exercises will be held in the Sever Quadrangle at 10 A. M. The doors will be open from 9.30-10, and holders of tickets will enter the quadrangle by the north and south entrances on Quincy street. The street will be closed to all vehicular traffic from 10 A. M. to 12 M.

'1. The object of conferring the degrees in the Sever Quadrangle is to provide additional seats for the families and friends of all students in the graduating classes. Applications for such seats will be given the preference, and tickets will be assigned to the Deans of the various Faculties for distribution to the various groups of students.

"2. Members of Faculties do not need tickets for themselves as they are entitled to join the Commencement procession. Each member of a Faculty may apply before Thursday. June 15, to the University Marshal, 5 University Hall. Cambridge, for one ticket for the use of a member of his family.

Standing Room Tickets Available

"3. Officers of instruction and administration, not members of the Faculties, may apply to the University Marshal, 5 University Hall, Cambridge, for tickets for their personal use. They are not entitled to apply for seats for their families. A limited number of these tickets for standing room only will be available.

"4. This year the Alumni of all classes may join the Commencement procession. They are requested to assemble in front of Massachusetts Hall and to join the President's part of the Commencement procession in order of seniority. The older Alumni will accompany the President's Procession to the Platform, the younger Alumni will be assigned to any available vacant seats. Probably a number will have to stand. Alumni are not entitled to apply for seats for their families.

"6. A limited number of standing tickets will be available for students in the non-graduating classes. These may be had on application to the Deans of the various schools.

"7. In case of rain, the degrees will be conferred in Sanders Theatre. In this case, students of the graduating classes will probably have only one ticket for members of their families. These tickets will be assigned by the Deans of the various schools.
