BRIGGS DROPS SMITH IN FOURTH ROUND EASILY

JACKSON CUP DOUBLES MATCHES TO BEGIN TODAY

The close of the fourth round of the Jackson Cup singles yesterday resulted in one upset and one surprise: H. J. Kaltenbach Jr. 2L., succumbed to Patrick Morgan '26, the score being 4-6, 6-4, 6-4; Alden Brigges '25 dropped W. T. Smith '26, number one man of last year's yearling team, 6-1, 6-2.

Kaltenbach was expected to reach the sixth round. Morgan lost the first set to him but by cool playing took the second two without going into extra games.

E. M. Upjohn '25 was expected to give J. F. W. Whitbeck '27, the former Loomis School star, real opposition, but the latter won, as in his former matches, easily, 6-1, 6-3. None of the seeded players meet today in the fifth round.

The doubles of the Jackson Cup match begin this afternoon when six matches will be played. Of the four seeded doubles teams, none will participate today.
