UNIVERSITY BOARDS AWARD 151 DEGREES

Made Master of Arts for-Study in Anthropology -- Law and Business Schools Each Graduate Six Men

The Governing Boards of the University have granted 151 degrees in the annual mid-year award, it was announced last night.

Of the 56 degrees of Bachelors of Arts awarded by the College, four were conferred with distinction. The four men who won this honor are John Chandler Bancroft '23, of Ithaca, N. Y. (A.B. cum laude); Geoffrey Bolton '23, of Shirley (A.B. cum laude); Geoffrey Bolton '23, of Shirley (A.B. cum laude); Charles Joseph Hamlin 23, of Roslindale (A.B. cum laude in Romance languages); and Martin Phillip Chivorowsky '22, of Altenburg, Mo. (A.B. cum laude in Economics, as of 1922, for honorable service in the war).

Among those awarded higher degrees by the University was the well-known Aretic explorer Vilhjalmur Stefansson, who was made a Master of Arts on the basis of advanced study in anthropology which he did at the University during the years 1903-1906. At that time Stefansson did not apply for a degree, but his work was of such quality that on his recent application he was granted it.

Fifty-six Bachelors of Arts were created, 17 Bachelors of Science, two Bachelors of Science in engineering, 30 Masters of Arts, 13 Masters, of Education, ten Doctors of Philosophy, six Masters of Business Administration, six Doctors of Dental Medicine, six Bachelors of Law, two Doctors of Medicine, one Doctor of Science, one Master of Sci- ence in Zoology, and one Master in Architecture.
