Former University Player and Director Signs Contract With Columbia--To Begin Work This Season

Mr. P. D. Haughton '99, football coach at the University from 1909 to 1919, has signed a contract to coach Columbia University's team for the next season.

When Mr. Haughton came to the University in 1909 the Crimson had won only five Yale games in 34 years. In the 11 years under his leadership Yale won only two games out of nine played, two other games were tied, and the Crimson won five. Considering all games played, when he was coaching, the Crimson won 64 and tied five out of 77 contests.

Since the revival of football at Columbia in 1915 the Blue and White has not had a championship team and the problem confronting the new coach is a difficult one.
