BOTH TRACK SQUADS TO PRACTICE OUTDOORS

BURKE, FARRELL, AND MARTIN TO SPEAK BRIEFLY

The actual work of the spring track season at the University will begin this afternoon with the initial practice at Soldiers Field. Candidates for both the University and Freshman teams will report at the Locker Building at 3 o'clock dressed and ready for practice which will be held immediately after a short meeting. At this time it is expected that almost 250 men will come out, a large increase over last year's number when only slightly more than 100 men reported for the University, and about 55 for the Freshman team.

Three men will speak at the candidates' meeting this afternoon. Captain J. W. Burke '23 will talk briefly to the men, as will also Coach Farrell, who will be in charge of the field-event men. The final speaker will be Coach Martin, who will outline the plans for daily practice and will explain in detail to the members of the squad what rules they are to follow in regard to training.

Primarily, to interest those men who do not develop rapidly enough to compete in the regular meets, but also to give practice to the regulars of the teams, Coach Martin has developed the plan of dividing the entire squad into two teams as soon as possible, and to hold frequent informal meets between these groups, which will be as nearly equal in strength as the coaches can make them. The first of these meets will probably come in about two weeks.
