Today at 4 o'clock on Soldiers Field, the University Second baseball team will try to recover from its recent slump when it meets the Brown Freshmen in the fifth game of the season. The Crimson line-up has been greatly altered since the disastrous defeat suffered at the hands of Milton last Saturday. L. O. V. Mann '25 and L. M. Gibb '25 will reenforce the infield, and F. L. Stevens '25 will take Thomas's place in center field.
In preparation for today's contest, the Seconds had a practice game yesterday afternoon, in which the regular nine showed marked improvement in its fielding abilities, although its hitting was still weak. After practice, the team unanimously elected Kenneth Boyd Lucas '23 of Brooklyn, N. Y., captain for the rest of the season. He is a graduate of the Polytechnical Preparatory School in Brooklyn, and has played a reliable game in the field with the Seconds for three years.
The Brown Freshmen have had a very successful season so far, having won six and lost two of their contests. They have been handicapped during the last week, however, by rainy weather, which has prevented them from practicing regularly.
