OPPORTUNITY TO FLY OFFERED BY NAVY

Ground Work to Begin at Once--Practice in Flying Will Occupy 45 Days in Spring or Summer

Future birdmen among members of the University have an opportunity to receive their training by entrapment student aviators at the Naval Redcliffe Air Station at Squantum. Admission R. de Steigner, Commandant the First Naval District has announced that a class of 20 college graduates and undergraduates, in which several vacancies will be held for Harvard representatives, is now being formed to receive flying instruction.

Preliminary theoretical instruction in the art of flight throughout the spring and intensive practice in, actual flight for 45 days in the sumer, will comprise the course. The competition of this work, however, will open the way to quailing student aviators to enter an operating aviation unit of the regular Navy, will receive advanced instruction after that they will be eligible for an ensign's commission.

The grounds school classes will began about February 1, Admiral do stingier stated, and will be held at the Massechusetts Institute of Technology, on Tuesday and Thursday of even Professor E. P. Warner '16 the areonautical department of M. R. T. and officers of United States Navy will give the instruction, while Lieutenant George R. Pond, commanding officer of the station at Squantum will be in charge of the school. Students may choose between an early spring and a summer class in flight.

The requirements for eligibility are three-fold. Candidates must be either graduates or undergraduates at recognized New England colleges, they must be from 18 to 28 years of age, and in perfect physical condition.

Lieutenant Pond, at Building 39, Charlestown Navy Yard, will receive applications or give further information.
