BLAMES ENVIRONMENT FOR CONDITION OF HARVARD CREWS

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Pink, Tea, "Dates", and Automobiles are among the contributing causes which make it difficult for Harvard oarsmen to get into condition early in the season according to Coach Haines of the 150 pound Freshman crews. He also intimated to the CRIMSON reporter that this was one of the reasons for the decline of the rowing at Harvard. "At Cornell," he explained, "the college is situated on the top of a very steep hill, making the use of automobiles impossible. A weekly "movie" is about all the lighter diversion they get; and still more important, the boathouse is two miles from the college and the oarsmen are required to walk both ways. This is a great aid to conditioning."

This comment is particularly relevant in view of Captain henry's recent recommendation that oarsmen ride bicycles to and from the boat houses.
