The University chess team has joined with the Yale, Princeton, and West Point chess players in the formation of what will be known as the H. Y. P. W. Intercollegiate Chess League. This league replaces the C. H. Y. P. College Chess League which was disbanded recently. Columbia barred from the old league on professional charges, is replaced by West Point.

The preliminary plans call for a tournament to be held annually during the Easter vacation. A cup has been offered by two Princeton graduates, W. Van D. Belden and L. W., Stephens, past members of Princeton chess teams. The cup will be a challenge trophy and will remain in competition until one team wins it five years in succession.

The University is represented on the governing board of the new league by G. T. McClure '06, who carried on the negotiations with West Point whereby the cadets entered the new combination. The committee is now engaged in forming a set of rules to govern the organization. The finances are being cared for by graduates of the several colleges.
