The assignment of Major Charles D. Daly to Harvard ostensibly as an instructor of student reserve officers but actually as a coach of the Harvard football squad is a pretty little thing.

Major Daly was once a Harvard captain. He was appointed to West Point on the eve of the Yale game. He graduated. He served for a time in the Army and eventually resigned. A special act of Congress got him back after he had found civil life uncongenial. His principal duty since restoration to the officers' list has been as coach of the West Point eleven. Recently he was ordered to duty with troops. Now Harvard needs him. Harvard gets him.

Maybe that is what the United States Army is for.

If Philadelphia can have a brigadier general of Marines for chief of police why can't Harvard football in its dilapidation, have a mere major of the Army for football?

Bootlegging must be stopped in Philadelphia and Dartmouth in the stadium. Worcester Telegram.
