FRESHMAN MONDAY NIGHT TALKS BECOME SMOKERS

Radical changes in the Freshman Monday night meetings may be looked forward to with the announcement by H. H. MacCubbin '27, of the Phillips Brooks House, that the first gathering next Monday night will assume the aspect of a smoker.

Besides this departure from the Freshman Monday nights of previous years, a number of other innovations in the conduct of the meetings were also announced.

At each smoker in the future, upper classmen will be invited to act as hosts to the Freshmen in an effort to make these functions enjoyable and informal gatherings. Music and entertainment, to be provided by the Instrumental Club and other organizations, will feature the program of the first meeting on October 19. D. C. Gates '26, President of the Instrumental Clubs, and E. A. Smith '26 will be the headliners on the entertainmen bill for the initial function.

The third change to be effected under the new plan, will divide the meetings this year between the three Freshman dormitories, Smith Gore and Standish. Hitherto all the Freshman Monday nights have been held in the Smith Halls Common Room.

The increase in size of the entering class and the desire on the part of those in charge to make the assemblies informal as possible, have led to these departures from the traditional Monday night meetings of the past.

The singing of college songs and the speeches will be continued as usual at the first meeting. Professor K. F. Mather, professor of Biology in the University, will lecture on "A Trained Intellect; The Ability to See Rather Than Just to Look."
