BUSINESS COMPETITION FOR 1928 WILL BEGIN

GRADUATE POINTS OUT MERITS OF CRIMSON COMPETITIONS

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The business department of the CRIMSON will open its final competition for Sophomore candidates at 7 o'clock tonight, with a meeting in the CRIMSON Building.

A prominent graduate and former editor of the CRIMSON recently wrote regarding his ideas on the prevalent feeling that competitions in general and CRIMSON competitions in particular, are undue distractions to a student's scholastic work. "Not only is this an entirely erroneous theory," he said "but one totally unsubstantiated by the facts which we know to be true.

Best Way to Know Harvard

"I can confidently assert that there is no better way to get to know Harvard than through the CRIMSON. A candidate comes into contact with the heads of every activity in the University and with prominent business men of Boston, and so the CRIMSON becomes a gateway to an infinite fund of information.

"My final word would be to think of the careers of Ambassador A. B. Haughton, of Franklin D. Roosevelt, of Thomas W. Lamont, one of the foremost financiers of the day, and of dozens of others, all of whom have been members of the CRIMSON, and do likewise."

The work this fall will consist almost entirely of soliciting advertising and will not require much time in the evenings. All possible candidates are urged to bear in mind that inexperience will be in no way a hindrance in this competition.

The candidates who are elected at the end of 11 weeks will become eligible to compete for the position of assistant business manager which is a further step toward the highest office in the department, that of business manager, which is held during the Senior year.

By the use of up-to-date office equipment, and efficient business methods, the routine work that the candidates will be required to do has been reduced to a minimum.
