Plans for the annual Union Christmas-dinner on December 17, the authors from which Professor C. T. Copeland '82, Boylston Professor of Oratory and Rhetoric will read next Tuesday, and the appointment of a new Student Committee, were announced yesterday by C. P. Fordyce '23, secretary of the Union.
"Ruggles of Red Gap," an eight reel moving picture and two, one reel cartoons have been obtained by the Union officials to show at the dinner. An attempt to get the film of Charlie Chaplin in "The Gold Rush," was unsuccessful, due to the fact that it had not been displayed at a certain Cambridge theatre.
A special Christmas menu, music by a student orchestra, and other entertainment which has not yet been announced, will also be on the program.
Copeland Reading Announced
Professor Copeland, whose reading will take place in the Upstairs Dining Room of the Union at 8.30 o'clock next Tuesday night, will read from Kipling, Milne, Leacock, and Thackery. The exact passages are not announced as yet, but will probably be in the spirit of the Christmas season. The acoustics of the Upstairs Dining Room are better than those of the main hall and the Professor will insist on the doors being locked at 8.30 o'clock sharply to prevent interruption.
The announcement of three new appointments to the Union Student Committee by J. J. Maher '26, Vice-President of the Union, were made yesterday. J. M. Perkins 2 G. B. was appointed as representative from the Graduate Schools on the Committee. The second member appointed to the Committee was P. F. Altman '26 and Winslow Carlton '29 was appointed as Freshman representative.
