"MASK AND WIG EFFORTS BEST"--ETHEL BARRYMORE

TO OPEN IN "CAPTIVE HUSBAND" ABOUT DECEMBER 1

"Oh, it's the best one act play ever written--A veritable classic," exclaimed Ethel Barrymore. "I have acted in 'The Twelve Pound Look' on various occasions for nearly twenty years, and I always come back to it. When I cannot be in an exceptionally fine larger play, I invariably resort to this."

Miss Barrymore has been acting in the latest presentation of her favorite Barrie play since last June, and expects to continue in the role of Kate Symms for another six weeks. Thereafter she will take the leading part in Somerset Maugham's new play, "The Captive Husband."

With a cordial smile Miss Barrymore continued, "I could keep on in this part forever, yet I am anticipating my next part with much pleasure. With a cast of London players we are starting at Washington about the first of December."

Favors Mask and Wig

The CRIMSON reporter then turned the subject to college dramatics. The star was quick to assure him of the great value to the stage of undergraduate productions. Many of her most talented theatrical associates, she asserted, gained their first training while in college, and she expressed an earnest desire to see more college men on the stage.

"It is my personal opinion," Miss Barrymore concluded, "that the Mask and Wig gives the best of the college shows, yet that may be merely because I am more familiar with its doings. I dare say that the similar organizations at Harvard and Yale are quite as successful, though I'm inclined to believe that they are not as consistent as my favorite. Nevertheless they all give a prospective actor the needed experience which brings success much sooner after graduation than if he had not acted in college."
