N.S.F.A. CONGRESS TO ATTRACT HUNDREDS

The student's part in education will be the subject for discussion at the second annual Congress of the National Student Federation of America on Thursday, Friday and Saturday of this week, it was announced yesterday by Lewis Fox 1L, President of the N. S. F. A.

Student delegates from 170 colleges of 39 different states will attend the Congress at Ann Arbor, Michigan, this week. The meetings will be held under the auspices of the University of Michigan.

To Consider Three Problems

Three different problems in connection with the student's part in college life and scholastic activity will be considered at the national assembly. The first problem will be to find a means of establishing closer contact beween faculty and undergraduates in American colleges; the second, to find a way of making intellectual attainment the chief object of college education and to give recognition to the man achieving it; and third, to make a re-appraisal of the sources of a college's claim to greatness with the emphasis placed upon the development of individuals rather than the amassment of great numbers of students. In connection with the second subject, the importance of the part played by extra-curricular activities in the educational process will be estimated.

Delegates From Harvard

The University will send three representatives to the Congress in addition to Mr. Fox. These men are M. A. Check Jr. '26 H. W. Foote '27, and H. C. Bartlett '28. Foote will be on the Execnntive Committee of the Federation while Cheek will be in charge of the subcommittee to consider the value of athletic activities.

At the opening assembly on Thursday evening in the Michigan Union, the student gathering will be addressed by Thomas Cavanaugh, President of the University of Michigan Student Council, by Dr. Shirley Smith, Secretary of the University, by Lewis Fox, by Dr. Stephen P. Quggan, Director of the Institute of International Education, and by President Henry Noble MacCracken of Vassar College. On Friday and Saturday, the Congress will pass judgment upon ratifications of the Federation's Constitution, and upon the extension of international relations, as well as upon the three most important student problems, previously mentioned.

Has Sundry Affillations

The Student Federation has established connections with the American Association of University Professors and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Learning in order to obtain for its members through these connections the articles, interviews and bulletins on the efforts of noted educators to meet the contemporary problems of undergraduate life.
