CLEVER BOXING FEATURE OF UNIVERSITY TOURNEY

Clever boxing featured the preliminaries of the University boxing tournament yesterday afternoon in the Hemenway Gymnasium. Only two of the eight matches were won by knockouts, and both were technical knockouts.

The best bout of the afternoon was in the 147-pound class between G. N. Burns '29 and R. W. Lewis 2L. The men were forced to go an extra round before the judges could come to a decision. Burns was finally awarded the decision. This bout was marked by excellent boxing and exceptionally good foot-work.

The only bout in the heavyweight class was between E. H. Bradford Jr. '26 and C. L. Gilmer 3L., who was runner-up in the 175-pound class last year. The match was stopped at the end of the first round, and Bradford was awarded a technical knockout. The other technical knockout was gained by H. J. Cohen 1L, over R. W. Lewis 2L at the end of two rounds.

Semi-Finals To Be Held Friday

The semi-final and finals of the tourney will be held Friday evening at 8 o'clock. All men participating must have for their seconds University men. Tickets for the seconds must be procured an the H.A.A. today or tomorrow.

Pairing for the semi-finals and finals has not been announced; but, on Friday night there will be one bout in the 118-pound class, two in the 126-pound class, three in the 135-pound class, three in the 147-pound class, three in the 160-pound class, three in the 175-pound class, and one in the heavyweight class.

All except one of the participants in the 112-pound class failed to appear for the preliminaries. Coach Shevlin has not as yet decided what will be done in the event that no others appear for the finals.

The summary for the preliminaries:

126-pound class--Milton Krook 1L defeated A. L. Bickmore G.Ed. in three rounds.

147-pound class--G. N. Burns '29 defeated R. W. Lewis 2L in four rounds. W. P. Wadsworth '29 defeated E. B. Boyce '27 in three rounds. W. R. Bohm Sp. defeated H. E. Harris '27 in three rounds.

160-pound class John Parkinson '29 defeated Joseph Hammer '28 in three rounds. H. J. Cohen 1L defeated Joseph Schmidt 1S.A. in two rounds by a technical knockout. J. H. Courtney 3L defeated A. J. Hubbard 3L in three rounds.

Heavyweight class E. H. Bradford Jr. defeated C. L. Gilmer 3L in one round by a technical knockout.
