HARVARD BATTING FIGURE JUMPS 17 POINTS--TODD AND ZARAKOV NOW CHALLENGE BURNS FOR TOP PLACE

The team batting average of the University baseball squad jumped 17 points in the defeat at the hands of Holy Cross in Worcester, and the one sided win over Princeton in the deciding game of the series last Wednesday. The 254 total is only four points lower than the average of two weeks ago. Following the win over Princeton in the second game and the victory over Brown at Providence, the Crimson batters slipped to a collective average of :237. The fielding mark slipped a point below the high mark of last week, .939.

Burns, the ground covering center fielder for the University, dropped 46 points but is still leading the batting order with an average of .365 which is five points better than Captain Todd, who bettered its mark during the week with two good days at the plate against Holy Cross and Princeton Zarakov, the flashy third baseman, climbed 12 points in the ranking and retains his grasp on the third rung of the hitting ladder.

In the various departments, the leaders remain almost the same as a week ago. Todd, who formerly held the two base hit lead in conjunction with Sullivan and Barbee has now moved out in front and leads with a total of three. Sullivan reciprocated in the triple division, where he has held the honors jointly with the Crimson leader, and now heads the list with two three-ply blows. The University short stop has also managed to hold his advantage in the number of runs scored and is still at the head of the list with a total of 18. In three divisions, namely, most hits, most stolen bases, and most sacrifices, Todd and Zarakov are tied. Four players are even with one home run each.   g.  a.b.  r.  h.  2b.  3b.  h.r.  s.h.  s.b.  Ave.  p.o.  a.  e.  Ave. Burns c.f.  11  41  7  15  1  0  1  2  3  .365  21  1  0  1.000 Todd l.f.  18  61  12  22  3  1  0  5  5  .360  36  1  1  .973 Zarakov 3b.  18  65  17  22  1  0  1  5  5  .338  26  27  6  .897 Duchin c.  2  3  0  1  0  0  0  0  0  .333  3  0  0  1.000 Chase 2b.  5  10  3  3  1  0  0  1  0  .300  3  5  2  .800 Ullman 2b.  17  56  2  15  0  0  0  1  2  .262  35  31  4  .942 Barbee p.  12  27  3  7  2  0  0  1  0  .259  4  26  2  .937 Sullivan s.s.  18  62  18  16  2  2  1  2  4  .258  15  25  6  .869 Jones r.f.  17  69  16  17  0  0  0  1  4  .246  28  1  4  .878 Chauncey c.  14  46  12  11  1  0  0  1  1  .239  65  13  4  .951 DeRham c.  8  27  5  6  1  1  1  0  0  .222  25  6  4  .886 Lord 1b.  3  15  2  3  0  0  0  0  1  .200  23  0  2  .920 Ellison r.f.  10  37  2  6  1  0  0  0  2  .162  15  11  0  1.000 Tobin 1b.  15  51  8  8  1  0  0  3  0  .156  126  11  4  .971 Cutts p.  5  8  0  1  1  0  0  1  1  .125  1  8  0  1.000 Booth p.  8  15  1  1  0  0  0  0  0  .000  8  5  1  .969 Slayton 3b.  5  3  2  0  0  0  0  0  0  .000  0  0  0  .000 Puffer p.  3  4  0  0  0  0  0  0  0  .000  0  1  0  1.000 McGlone s.s.  1  1  2  0  0  0  0  0  0  .000  0  0  0  .000 Amsden c.f.  2  2  0  0  0  0  0  0  0  .000  0  0  0  .000 Knowlton 2b.  1  2  1  0  0  0  0  0  0  .000  0  0  0  .000 Moseley p.  1  0  0  0  0  0  0  0  0  .000  0  0  0  .000     605  113  154  15  4  4  23  28  .254  431  175  40  .938
