An unusual increase in the activity of the sun has been reported by Professor H. T. Stetson of the Astronomical Laboratory, as an indication that the peak of the number and size of sunspots for this year will be reached sometime within the next week.
The sun, which before the early part of last week had been rather clear, is now spotted with masses 100,000 miles across. Indications are that the peak will be the highest ever reached since 1926.
Daily records are now being made at the Laboratory for the University and several other astronomical laboratories and observatories, among which is the Naval Observatory at Washington.
