CHESS TEAM LEADS PRINCETON AFTER FIRST TOURNEY MATCH

A chess team representing Harvard lead a team from Princeton who finished second to the University in the last annual tournament of the H-Y-P-W. College Chess League, 2 to 1 after an afternoon session Saturday. Although originally it was planned to contest this first match of this year's tournament on five boards, due to the non-appearance of one of the Tiger men, only four were used.

At the expense of F. J. La Fleur, captain of the Princeton team, the Crimson captain, F. R. G. Chevalier '29, winner of the individual championship last year, won on the first board, by the use of a strong offensive. Chevalier scored after 36 moves.

W. A. Robinson '31 was defeated on the second board by J. C. Coatman of Princeton, G. F. Gravell '28 sent Harvard into the lead with a win over J. C. Webster in a Vienna opening which went to 39 moves, and F. N. Rich '29, and S. Emery of the Tigers after emerging from a Scotch opening in which Emery had the white side, adjourned their game evenly matched.
