CRIMSON NINE TO MEET MIDDLEBURY

Will Probably Pitch in Contest Set for 4 O'clock--Seconds Take Game From New Hampshire Scrubs

The Middlebury baseball team will journey down from Vermont today to meet the Harvard diamond forces on Soldiers Field at 4 o'clock this afternoon. This will be the first of three contests this week for the University nine, which will engage Villanova on Thursday and travel to Philadelphia Saturday for a clash with Pennsylvania.

Howard is Likely Pitcher

It seems likely that Willard Howard '28 will be Coach T. G. Mitchell's mound choice in this afternoon's game; F. B. Cutts '28 is the other alternative. the latter will most probably be sent into the box Thursday, while J. N. Barbee '28, will be saved for the contest with the Red and Blue at the end of the week. Howard has seen only 11 innings of service this season, but during his brief period of activity has performed very creditably. Travelling the full route against Maine, he fanned-five and allowed only seven scattered hits. In the last two innings of the Trinity game, Howard struck out four, while none of the opposing batters was able to connect with his offerings.

The Middlebury aggregation has suffered the fate of most of the teams from northern New England this season. Unfavorable weather conditions have considerably curtailed its practice sessions and postponed the start of its spring campaign.

The Second University nine won a loosely-played contest from the New Hampshire State Seconds by a 13 to 8 count yesterday afternoon on Soldiers Field.

W. L. Elkins '29 led his team-mates at bat with four hits, one of them a home run, out of five trips to the plate J. J. Carver '30 also slammed out a circuit elout.

The Seconds lineup follows.

Kay Miyakawa '29, s.s.: John Pudor '29, l.f.; W. L. Elkins '29, lb.: E. R. Todd '29, lb.: J. J. Carver '30, 3b: K. W. Crotty '29 and J. S. Cunningham '29, c.f.: T. G. O'Neil '30, r.f.: R. H. Barbour '30, c.: F. L. Molloy '29, p.

The New Hampshire lineup follows:

Hall, s.s: Vilardo, 2b.: Reinhart, 1b.: Gustafson, e.f.: Walls and McClenning, r.f.: Smith, c.: Percival, l.f.: Paolino and Winkler, 3b.: Sever and Greenier. p
