In the Harvard CRIMSON there are still innumerable columns devoted to such questions as "Was or was not the House Plan railroaded through the Faculty?" Every professor at Harvard has been harried into hibernation, until he has expressed his opinion on this "greatest change of the century." And woe befall the poor man who hesitates and qualifies!

A goodly number of months have gone by since the announcement of Mr. Harkness' gift. Nothing new has developed; the success of the plan is no more determined than before, as only trial can settle that point. And yet each week our honored and respected friends across the Common grow more and more irate and troubled.

To be sure, we have not seen anyone donating a number of nice new houses to fill up the quadrangle for us, but neither have we heard anyone announce in stenorous tones that any dastardly demon who attempted it would be unanimously boycotted.

Is it possible that these famed undergraduates could be so upset at a munificent gift, attached to a clause that the Houses to be built with the money be lived in--dormitories which read like Aladdin's Fairy Palaces? Even the magazines for the tables have been minutely listed, to avoid slighting any individual taste. A secret suspicion occurs to us--can it be--softly, while we whisper--perhaps it is only Harvard's pride in its "indifference" that is offended! It may be that they are resenting this assumption that they are like any other students, that their welfare must be looked after by benevolent despots, and that there is a chance that a number of men a few years older may know a bit more than do the worldly wise students of this university.

Can it be? --The Radcliffe Daily
