SONDHEIM VICTOR IN PITCHING DUEL AS BROWN WINS 3-1

Drives in Two of Three Tallies Made by His Team--MacHale Knocked Off Mound in Fifth Inning

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The right handed pitching of Sondheim was too much for the Harvard ball team yesterday and as a result the nine from Brown carried away a 3 to 1 victory over the Crimson outfit. Sondheim allowed the home batsmen only five hits and scattered them well over the nine innings, no two of them coming during one frame.

The lean pitcher of the Providence team got into trouble on several occasions but when a crisis arose he was always master of the situations in the seventh when Harvard had three men on and only one out Sondheim got Nugent on a pop to center-field and then fanned McGrath. The Bruins twirler was also mainly responsible for his own team's runs driving in two of the three tallies.

Scoring Began in Third

The visitors scored in the third when Crane reached first on an infield hit, advanced to second on an infield out, and crossed the plate when Sondheim crashed a hit to right. In the fifth, a walk to Crane and successive singles by Chaiklin and Sondheim netted two more runs for Brown. After Harriss reached first on a fielder's choice and MacHale hit Sylvonen, Coach Mitchell terminated the latter's term on the mound and Devens was sent in to do the pitching.

Harvard's lone run came in the sixth when Wood picked on one of Sondheim's slow ones and slammed it to center sending in Bassett from third.
