HONORING THE SCIENTISTS

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The establishment of a Harvard chapter of the national scientific honor society of Sigma Xi is a fitting public recognition of the important place which the sciences hold in the University. Although undergraduates will be elected to Sigma Xi only on rare occasions, the Society will mean to those working in the sciences much what Phi Beta Kappa means to those working in the humanities.

With the building of Mallinckrodt and of the Biological Laboratory, and the reconstruction of Jefferson and Crufts, adequate facilities have been provided for effective experiment and research. An equally important though non-material asset will be found in an honor society for the recognition of outstanding achievement among scientific workers. The establishment of such a society at Harvard is a welcome move.
