FENCERS SEEK NEW TITLE-AT NEW YORK INTERCOLLEGIATES

As a result of its victory in all three weapons in the northern division trials of the Intercollegiate Fencing League held here on March 21, the Harvard fencing team will compete in the intercollegiate championships to be staged in New York today and tomorrow. Coach Rene Peroy, D. N. Yerkes '33, assistant manager, and six members of the University team left yesterday afternoon for the meet.

The other teams which will participate in the meet are Navy, Yale, New York University, Army, Princeton, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, College of the City of New York, Columbia, and Cornell. The bouts will be held in the Ball Room of the Hotel Astor beginning this afternoon and concluding on Friday night.

Both individual and team champions will be chosen in each weapon, and then on the basis of these results one team will be declared the winner of the meet. Harvard's swordsmen have a chance to win in some of the weapons and a fair chance to take first place in the meet, since they have entries in all three events.

In the folls the Crimson swordsmen have been victorious over two of their opponents in the meet, Yale and New York University. The University team is also slightly favored over Army and Princeton but will strike its real difficulty with the Navy team, which defeated it 10 to 7 earlier in the year. C. C. N. Y. and M. I. T. promise to be Harvard's strongest opponents in the epee division.

Gilbert Kerlin '33 made the trip with the team to compete for the Clemence medal this morning. This is separate from the intercollegiate and is open only to those who have never taken part in intercollegiate fencing meets. The members of the University fencing team who made the journey are Captain H. C. Cassidy '31, H. B. Wessleman '31, and J. D. Allen '31, who will compete in the foils, W. M. Wing '32 and R. B. Lawson '32, entered in the sabre, and K. R. Ludlam '33, who will represent Harvard in the epee.
