ELIOT TO GIVE SECOND LECTURE THIS EVENING

Speaking in the New Lecture Hall this evening at 8 o'clock, T. S. Eliot '10, well known poet and critic, will deliver his second lecture of the Year as Charles Eliot Norton Professor of Poetry. He will speak on "Poetry and Criticism in the Time of Elizabeth." Professor Eliot is the sixth holder of the chair, which was held last year by Sigurthur Nordal, from the University of Iceland.

Eight lecture in all, under the general title "The Use of Poetry and the Use of Criticism," will be delivered during the year by Professor Eliot. For his first lecture, Professor Eliot chose for his subject, "The Relation of Criticism and Poetry," dealing with the primary uses of criticism, and the validity of a use of poetry," dealing with the primary uses of criticism, and the validity of a use for poetry. The titles of the two remaining lectures which will be given this half year are "The Classical Tradition: Dryden and Johnson," to be given on Friday, December 2, and "The Theories of Coleridge and Wordsworth," on Friday, December 9.

The Norton Lectures are given yearly, according to the terms of an endowment by the late C. C. Stillman '98, as a memorial to Professor Norton. Professor Norton spoke and "The Spirit of Icelandic Literature."
