41 MEN TURN OUT FOR HOCKEY TEAM AS SEASON STARTS

Nine Members of Last Year's Team Will Report For Practice--Three Games Slated Before Christmas

Forty-one candidates reported at a preliminary meeting of the Varsity hockey squad held in the Varsity Club yesterday. Coach Stubbs and Robert Saltonstall, Jr. '33 gave short talks, emphasizing the necessity for getting the squad in shape for the first games of the season which are less than three weeks away.

The first practiced of the season will be held at 2 o'clock on Tuesday in the Boston Garden. The entire group of letter men from last year with the exception of the men who graduated is expected to report at this practice.

Lettermen Return

Among the letter men returning are Robert Saltonstall, Jr. '33, Ian Baldwin '33, and J.W. Putnam '33, all of whom are veteran players in the forward line. R.H. Martin '33 was a defense man last year, while P. deB. deGive '34 played as varsity goalie. The other members of last year's team returning are Benjamin Beale '34, C.C. Pell '33, W.L. Hasler '34, and W.C. Everett '34. Among the players coming up to the Varsity from last year's Freshman team are M.L. Prayn '35, captain of the first year men, W.P. Watts '35, and F.A. Reece '35, stars of last years Freshman team.

To Meet McGill

The practice sessions for the next few weeks will consist mainly in precede the Christmas season. The Varsity sextet will meet M.I.T., its first opponent, on Thursday, December 15. Two days later, on Saturday, December 17, the hockey team will play its first major game with McGill, a contest which generally is a severe early season test of the quality of the team. A return game with McGill will be played in Montreal on Friday, December 23.
