GLEE CLUB TO SING AT WASHINGTON EXERCISES

A celebration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of George Washington will be held at Sanders Theatre, Memorial Hall, at 11 o'clock on Washington's Birthday. Dr. A. T. Davison '06 will lead 30 members of the Glee Club in songs of the American Revolution, and Professor Morison will speak on "The Young Man Washington," Mayer Russell will introduce Dean Murdock, who will preside.

The Glee Club will sing eight colonial songs, "Heart of Oak," "The World Turned Upside Down," "Liberty Tree," "Battle of the Kegs," "Chester," "The Yankee's Return from Camp," "American Hearts of Oak," and "War and Washington."

George Washington's connections with Harvard began when he arrived in Cambridge on July 2, 1775. His headquarters were at first in Wadsworth House, the building, still standing, which was used for many years as the home of the College President. Harvard College had already been removed to Concord, and only President Laugden's office was maintained in Wadsworth House while Washington used it as headquarters. Meals for several thousand soldiers were at this time cooked in the college kitchen, and the college buildings were used to quarter troops pending the building of barracks on Cambridge Common.
