Harvard Students To Vote on Divestment From Israel in Inaugural HUA Election Survey
The Harvard Grenfell Committee is opening its third annual campaign today in collaboration with the Mission Committee of Phillips Brooks House to raise a fund of $3000 for the Labrador Mission of Sir Wilfred Grenfell and to enlist students for summer work at the mission.
This year the 25,000 inhabitants along the Labrador coast under the jurisdiction of the mission have suffered the worst winter since 1890 when Sir Wilfred first visited needy Eskimos and Indians along the coast in his little 60-foot schooner. In this first year, working with only a few assistants, Grenfell treated over 900 cases in a single summer. In 1893 Harvard men purchased and manned a small ship for the mission and it is the aim of the committee to purchase a schooner this year and eventually have three Harvard students command it.
One hundred and fifty men who have served on the coast with Grenfell have been from Harvard. If there are enough handy volunteers each year who are willing to pay their expenses and transportation, money which would otherwise be required for labor can be diverted to purchase more supplies. If sufficient funds are obtained in the present campaign three men may have the opportunity to work personally with Sir Wilfred on the "Strathcona."
Work for students will continue for four months beginning June 20. There will be no competition this year to determine candidates; all choices will be made directly by a committee from Phillips Brooks House which will pass on the physical fitness of applicants. Further information may be obtained from L. W. Snyder '33, chairman of the committee, at Phillips Brooks House.
