SMITH DOWNS DEBATING MEN IN MEET AT NORTHAMPTON

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Smith College was victorious by a decision of 2-1 in the debate with the Harvard Debating Council, held Wednesday night in Northampton, it was learned yesterday. Harvard defended the affirmative of the question "Resolved, That in the public interest some laws should be ignored."

This debate inaugurated at Smith the "cross-examination" method of procedure, in which the first speaker of the negative team questions the affirmative speaker on his stand and the last man on the affirmative, in turn examines the last member of the negative team. The Smith contest concludes the season for the Debating Council, which conquered Yale in a dual meet last week.
