DEN HARTOG AND CASAGRANDE TO LECTURE HERE THIS YEAR

The appointment of Dr. Jacob Pieter Den Hartog and Mr. Arthur Casagrande as lecturers in the Harvard Engineering School was announced yesterday by H. E. Clifford, dean of the School. Dr. Den Hartog, a graduate of the Technical University at Delft, Holland, will conduct courses in Kinetics. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh in 1920, and has been affiliated with the Research Laboratory of the Westinghouse Electric Company since 1925. Before coming to Harvard he has lectured at the universities of Pittsburgh and Michigan and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Mr. Casagrande was graduated from the Technical University in Vienna in 1924, and has since been employed in research by the Carnegie Steel Company and the United States Bureau of Public Roads. He will give one course in Soil Mechanics and conduct research in that field while at Harvard.

At the same time it was announced by F. N. Mardulier, secretary of the New England Branch, that the first meeting of the Harvard Engineering Society will be held on Thursday, October 6, in Pierce Hall 110. Professor L. J. Johnson of the Engineering School will present an illustrated lecture on "The Relation of Engineering to Public Questions." This meeting is open to all students in the Engineering School.
