CRIMSON ENTERS THREE HARRIERS IN I.C.C. RACE

ELIGIBILITY RULES EXCLUDE ALL COLLEGE STARS

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Howard S. Derrickson '35, John F. Kelley '35, and Allen K. Philbrick '35, will represent the Crimson in the sixth Harvard Open Intercollegiate Cross Country Run, to be held at 3.30 o'clock tomorrow over the Soldiers Field course. This race is sponsored by Dennis F. O'Connell '21, a former track captain, and is run for those athletes from Eastern colleges who otherwise would not have the opportunity to compete in intercollegiate cross country runs. Harvard does not attempt to win this meet.

The eligibility rules are intended to exclude the first-string runners of the various colleges. Those eligible to run are all college men who have never competed in an I.C.4A. cross country championship, and who have not finished tenth or better in the sectional championships, such as the New England I. C. C., and Maine Intercollegiate Championships. Mere intention to compete in the future in a sectional championship does not make the runner ineligible. There is no limit to the number of entries from a college; and except for the above limitations, the entire cross country squad of any college will be permitted to enter.

As has been done in former years, the race will cover a distance of about four and one-half miles. The first five men of a team to finish will be counted for the team's score, and the trophy will be awarded on a team basis. The winning group will have the possession of the trophy for the ensuing year. Permanent possession will go to the college whose team wins the trophy for three successive years. In addition, there will be prizes for individual winners and a placque for the college sending the greatest number of entries.
