ENGLISH MOST POPULAR CONCENTRATION FIELD

English is the most popular field of concentration this year with 428 men concentrating in it, it was revealed in a tabulation released at University Hall yesterday. Fourteen per cent of all students in the College have selected the field of English, a gain of 7 per cent over last year.

The leading field last year was Economics with 15.9 per cent of the students majoring in it, but this has fallen to 13.3 per cent this year. Economics has been steadily dropping over a two-year period, for in 1931 there were 17.1 per cent of the students or 535 men in the field, and this has fallen to 500 in 1932 and 437 in 1933.

History has remained third in popularity over the three-year period without much change in the number of students choosing it. In 1931 there were 331 students in the field; in 1932, 315; and in 1933, 332.

Bio-chemical Sciences climbed from 249 students in 1932 to 265 this year, while Romance languages dropped from 274 to 256. A large increase was registered in the field of Government with 233 men concentrating in it, 60 more than in 1932.
