With its completely revamped lineup the Varsity went through a light workout at Soldiers Field yesterday afternoon. The changes that have been rumored but not definitely confirmed hitherto were revealed as final with an official announcement of the starting lineup for the Brown game tomorrow.
Cedric Janien will start at fullback, replacing Captain Johnny Dean; Chester Litman will start at right halfback and Danny Wells at left half. These backfield changes have to a large degree been caused by Coach Eddie Casey's desire to spare his regulars for the Yale game. Dean is not on the injured list, but he was bumped hard enough in the Army game to make it advisable to give him a rest if possible. He has seen action on every Saturday this season.
Litman owes his promotion to his Grade A showing against West Point, while Wells has finally emerged as a halfback after starting the season at quarter. He will take the place of Franny Lane, who is the only first-string man now on Doctor Thorndike's casualty list. There is no possibility of Lane getting into the battle tomorrow.
Other changes will see Dave Cheek replacing Walter White at left end and Franny Schumann taking Crane's position at left guard. Both men have seen considerable action in the previous games. The complete lineup will be: Cheek, l.e.; Francisco, l.t.; Schumann, l.g; Casey, c.; Gundlach, r.g.; Kopans, r.t.; Nazro, r.e.; Haley, q.b.; Wells, l.h.; Litman, r.h.; Janien, f.b.
