John H. Dean, of Cohasset, was elected to the position of First Marshal of the Senior class yesterday by a plurality of 250 votes. Richard G. Ames, of Wayland, and Thomas W. Nazro, of New York City, were elected Second and Third Marshals, respectively.
Other men chosen in these first Senior Class elections were as follows: Guy S. Hayes, of Belmont, Treasurer; John B. White, of Thomasville, Ga., Ivy Orator; Asa E. Phillips, Jr., of Washington, D. C., orator; John C. Walcott, of Cambridge, odist; Herbert M. Howe, of Bristol, R. I., poet; and LeGrand L. Thurber, of New York City, chorister.
Dean, who prepared at Exeter, was captain of the 1933 Varsity football team, is a member of the Student Council, a Varsity track man, president of the Senior class, and a member of the Dunster House committee.
Ames is the president of the Student Council, captain of the Varsity wrestling team, winner of the Francis H. Burr Scholarship, and secretary of the Phillips Brooks House committee. He prepared at Milton.
Nazro, a Varsity football man, was president of the class in his Freshman year, having prepared at Noble and Greenough.
The marshals were elected by preferential ballot, each first choice counting three votes for the nominee; each second choice two; and each third, one. A record poll of 466 ballots was cast in this election.
The marshals will lead the class parades on Class Day, while the treasurer cooperates with the class secretary in managing the class funds, being elected for a life term. The oration and poem are delivered in Sanders Theatre, while the Ivy oration is given in the Stadium.
