In recognition of his work in founding both the House Plan and its attendant Society of Fellows, the Harvard Corporation has just elected A. Lawrence Lowell '77, retiring President of the University, an Honorable Associate of the seven Houses and has made him a Senior Fellow in the newly created Society of Fellows. Dr. Lowell will probably be present at the first dinner of the Society on Monday when the seven Senior Fellows and the six Junior Fellows meet together in the Society rooms in Eliot House.
The Society of Fellows was the last great undertaking launched under Dr. Lowell's presidency. Although mentioned in his reports as far back as 1929, the plan was not finally realized until January 9, 1933, when the University announced its receipt of an anonymous gift of about $1,000,000 to establish and endow the Society.
